Interesting Times!

Released Jun 23, 2020

Well, things have certainly been eventful, haven’t they? The events of the past several weeks have been I think it’s safe to say somewhat historic. And important. Not exactly sure where comedy podcasts fit in, but we’ll muddle through as best we can.

This was really a perfect storm. With the effects of the lockdown, the proliferation of cell phone videos pulling the veil back on systemic police brutality, then the one two three of Breonna Taylor, Aubrey Adams and George Floyd, now you have a real tinderbox and with a pyromaniac in the White House, the results are sadly predictable. And in this country, sadly unavoidable.

Now, my guest is a good friend of the show and the co-host of one of my favorite podcasts Hacks On Tap, which is a weekly political round up that he co hosts with David Axelrod. Mike is a political strategist, a Republican never Trumper and an all-around great guy. This interview was recorded before the spate of riots and social unrest so that topic is not broached, but we do cover the pandemic, and the election. What I love about Mike’s analysis is that he has a baseball coach’s approach to elections because he used to run campaigns. He gets right down into the nuts and bolts of what you need to do to win. Because if you don’t win, you don’t get to do what you want. And that’s the truth, Ruth.

Two things before I we get going, you all know about our Patreon. You can join at https://www.Patreon.com/DanaGould. We don’t have fifteen different levels. We have one. Send me five bucks a month and you get access to a bunch of cool shit. Bonus audio, video, links, and it earns you the title Dana Gould Hour Sky Cadet! One of the projects we are working on is cataloguing and featuring all of the True Tales From Weirdsville middle pieces going back to the beginning of the podcast and they will all be there, indexed and available for your listening pleasure.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST. I’ll Be Gone In The Dark will be premiering on HBO on June 28th. It is a six-part true crime series that documents Michelle McNamara’s virtually single-handed hunt for the Golden State Killer prior to her tragic and sudden passing in 2016. Not long after Michelle’s death, her work helped lead police to the Golden State Killer himself, who had been lying dormant for decades, and he is now in prison where he belongs.

Michelle was a guest on this podcast in April of 2013 talking about her investigation. Michelle was a good pal and as I’m sure you know was also Mrs. Patton Oswalt. And if you’d like to hear that interview, it’s available right here. Or download the April 2013 episode, “Murder, Etc.” from your favorite podcast listening app.

That is some filthy business folks. And now, let’s get on… to ours.
